Umut KARAKOYUN/İZMİR, (DHA)- In İZMİR, members of Kemeraltı Tradesmen Association and representatives of some non-governmental organizations protested against child abuse together with motorcycle clubs. While the crowd gathered at the entrance of the Historical Kemeraltı Bazaar wanted child abuse to end, Kemeraltı Tradesmen Association President Ümit Kaya proposed a referendum to punish such cases with death penalty. Kaya said, "If it is a death sentence, it is a death sentence. If it is a chemical castration, it is a castration. If the representatives of this nation will not put their hands under this burden, this nation is ready for a referendum."
Gathering at the entrance of the historical Kemeraltı Bazaar in Izmir, members of the Kemeraltı Tradesmen Association, representatives of some non-governmental organizations and motorcycle clubs named Anatolian Soldiers, 35 army, Izmir Motorcycle Club and Izmir Chopper made a statement and demanded that precautions be taken against child abuse. Ümit Kaya, President of Kemeraltı Tradesmen Association, reminded that in the last week, sad news came from 8-year-old Eylül Yağlıkara in Polatlı, Ankara, and then from 4-year-old Leyla Aydemir, who disappeared on the 1st day of Ramadan Feast in Ağrı, like the whole of Turkey. He noted that they were also heartbroken. Kaya said, "We cannot forget the photos of our children reflected in the press. Our anger is great. When we look at the faces of our children, we see the face of Eylül in Ankara and Leyla in Ağrı. We want these cases to end now. We do not want other families to suffer the pain of their children. The same thing happens to us." "We do not want to live in fear of what will happen to our children," he said.
Stating that pain and anger cannot prevent these and similar incidents from happening, and that structural arrangements are now a must, Mayor Kaya said that an urgent action plan should be prepared against the cases of child abuse, which have increased greatly in the recent period. Stating that they called on the Turkish Grand National Assembly to enact deterrent laws on this issue, Ümit Kaya emphasized that the penalties for these crimes are very harsh in countries such as America and England.
'CHILD ABUSE HAPPENS EVERY 4 HOURS'
Arguing that Turkey ranks third in the world in child abuse, Kaya said:
"While we should all be working together against child abuse, we constantly stand on separate sides. Child abuse is a crime against humanity. In Turkey, a child is faced with rape or harassment every 4 hours. Approximately 25 thousand children living on the streets are faced with sexual harassment. On average a year Approximately 7 thousand children are exposed to abuse. According to the statements of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), children between the ages of 7 and 14 are more frequently subjected to sexual abuse. These figures are no longer accepted by conscience. We want more deterrent and aggravated punishments for these crimes. "There is no excuse for violence against women. There is no excuse for cruelty to animals. Any decision that does not comfort the hearts of the oppressed and the victim is a reward for the oppressor."
REFERENDUM PROPOSAL FOR DEATH
Arguing that this nation is ready to take any burden in every step taken against pedophilia, harassment, murder, exploitation and treason, Ümit Kaya suggested execution and said, "If it is execution, then it is death penalty, if it is chemical castration, it is castration. If it is Megan's Law, it is Megan's Law. If the representatives of this nation put their hands on this "This nation is ready for a referendum if they will not take responsibility. If what they want is death penalty, if the harshest punishment is punishment, we are here until the end," he said.
